The report from Sweden “…Then again, they are not totally stupid either”

This Rose Alliance report provides, for the very first time, an extensive and detailed documentation of the myriad of ways in which sex workers are discriminated against in Sweden. It illustrates how laws and their implementation harm them, how poorly they are treated by authorities and how skewed media representations of them are. It also describes the prejudice sex workers face, from acquaintances, friends and other members of the public; how they are excluded, subjected to harassment and forced to lead a life in secrecy. Moreover, this report provides examples of the rationale of Swedish policymakers. It shows how influential grass roots activists, authorities and politicians view sex workers and how they justify their own positions, illustrating how Swedish prostitution policy is profoundly influenced by prejudice.
