Founded in 1991 as the first organization involved in HIV/AIDS prevention in the former Yugoslavia, it was also one of the first to get involved in providing outreach services to the sex worker community. JAZAS focuses on prevention activities and providing legal, social, and medial services for sex workers. It advocates for the development of better national policies for working with marginalized groups and organizes national campaigns to change risky behavior and fight stigma and discrimination.
